Track 4 on Side 1 is “Shaky Nancy” (3.26), a rather dirge-like thing, with little or no electric guitar of any sort.
“Nancy went walking, gone for the day
When she comes back she’s been two years away
There’s still tears in here eyes
Who’ll say a prayer for Nancy?”
Track 5, however, is another sure-fire winner, with lots of the trademark guitar work. This is the splendidly titled “The Angels Took My Racehorse Away” (4.01). This is a rocker, and indeed the rockiest on the LP.
“She won the Lanark Silver Bell and she stole every heart away
She stood her stand at sixteen hands and I’d ride her easy
But they’ve taken, they’ve taken my racehorse away”.
Side 1 closes with “Wheely Down” (3.00). No electric guitar at all on this one, which is very much in the form of a Celtic chanted lament.
“And the armies of deliverance
Are run into the ground,
And the kestral [sic] turns in empty skies
On high over Wheely Down.”
Tomorrow has some most convenient significance.
