I have to say that I was rather disappointed with this record. In theory, it had everything going for it: the band that made the magnificent “Nine” album, plus the return of the incomparable talents of Sandy Denny. What could possibly go wrong?
Well, first off, of course, these were by definition live recordings, with the inevitable imperfections these things throw up.
Secondly, the track selection seemed all wrong. More of this later.
Lastly, Sandy Denny’s singing was of variable quality. This might have been due to her being wedding-happy. Again, more of this later.
Nevertheless, this was yet another Fairport Convention LP, so the immediate future looked pretty good.
