Track 4 on Side 1 of the LP is “John the Gun”, and a pretty good rendition of it to be sure. However, it has never been a song I have found very pleasant to listen to; and so my general air of diappointment continued.
The Side ends on quite a high note though, remarkably, with a short rock’n’roll number called “Something You Got”. More than any other song, this one went a long way to reviving the spirit of stuff like “Throw Away Street Puzzle”.
Side 2 is better, and begins with a truly splendid 11.31 minute version of “Sloth”. This is very good indeed, and certainly the best track on the LP, much of it of course being instrumental. Sandy Denny is at her subtlest best, and really adds to such vocals as there are.
Perhaps this wasn’t such a bad record after all.
