So, this is the final post on this record, which is included as a bit of a diversion, as a direct result of the last bonus song on the “Fairport Live Convention” CD.
It has given me the opportunity again to listen to the album, and I have to admit it is really good, much better than I remember it from my rather narrow minded and unforgiving youth. Of particular merit, in addition to the marvellous couple already mentioned, are “My Girl In The Month Of May”, which is a timeless performance by Richard Thompson, and the Buddy Holly songs where Sandy Denny sings the lead part.
Anyway, the CD has 4 bonus tracks:
13 “Let There Be Drums” (which was apparently released as a single)
14 “Twenty Flight Rock”
15 “High School Confidential”
16 “La Bamba”
This last one is just splendid. This is the CD description:
LA BAMBA (3.21)
(Trad Arr. Richie Valens)
Beechwood Music Corp
(REHEARSAL TAPE)
Linda Peters, vocals
Sandy Denny, backing vocals
Richard Thompson, guitar, backing vocals
Gerry Conway, drums
Dave Mattacks, drums
Pat Donaldson, bass, backing vocals
Ian Whiteman, piano
Roger Bell, saxaphone
This was some rehearsal! As with all the tracks on the record, this is performed with immense skill and perfect precision, but also with genuine love. The whole thing is actually a bit of a gem.
