Some more now from the first set of notes in the CD insert, being those written by Thor-Rune Haugen, from where we left off last time:
“THE EPILOGUE
We went home feeling happy and somewhere in the hall someone mislaid two boxes of tapes in a cupboard or a shelf or something. Fifteen years later the phone rang. To cut a long story short, my friend Jonny Moen and I bought the tape for a small fortune for the fun of it and kept it in the vaults. A release never entered our minds. But I’d known Dave Pegg for years and decided to send him a copy. He liked it. We mentioned the tape to Jerry Donahue who wanted to hear it. He also liked it. And suggested we’d release it on CD.
“I wonder now what my reaction would have been, as I left the hall after the concert in 1975, if someone had come up to me and said that over 30 years later I would be releasing it with the approval of the band themselves. But that’s the generous spirit of this band. The bond between Fairport fans and band is something you could never even begin to explain in words.”
I hope to finish this set of extraordinary notes next time.
