More this time from the second set of notes in the CD insert, these having been penned by Jerry Donahue. We rejoin them just after he has broken the news of the disastrous departure of Dave Mattacks from the group.
“Once we emerged from the shock brought on by that piece of news, we found ourselves faced with the dilemma of finding a replacement, assuming that task to be within the realm of possibility. We had some dates coming up in Holland, Germany and Norway, and we were now pretty worried that we may be forced to cancel.
“But during one discussion, one of our chief crew members mentioned that he happened to play the drums and said that he would like us to give him an audition. We did and were absolutely amazed by how well he played! He had worked for us for some time and had obviously been listening very carefully from the sidelines all the while, so now we counted ourselves very lucky, figuring we’d be (at the very least) ready for this tour! Once on the road and based on how things would be developing, we could then decide what to about the 2nd half of the LP…and other things further down the road.”
More next time.
