“Side 2” of the CD cracks off with Track 8, “Fiddlestix” (2.58), a ripping instrumental introduced by Trevor Lucas and staying very faithful to the original studio version.
Track 9 is “All Along The Watchtower” (4.19), but this is a very Dylan rather than Hendrix interpretation. It is performed very much in the spirit of earlier Fairport Convention Dylan covers (qv above), with Trevor Lucas providing a strong vocal part.
Track 10 fades in, for the reason quoted a few posts ago. This is “Six Days On The Road” (3.24). This is the Trevor Lucas “truckin'” song, performed here with gusto and perfection.
Track 11 is “John The Gun” (4.52), which seems to have been done as an encore. The drumming is very strong, which lends a more menacing feel to the song than is noticed on the studio version. Indeed, it is a truly great performance of a song I had never really liked, much better in all respects than the LP take, with Sandy Denny’s singing positively soaring at some points.
There might be a slight interlude or two before we get on to the last three tracks.
