When we left “Rising for the Moon” some weeks ago, I mentioned that I would come back to the CD insert notes AFTER a consideration of the extraordinary live CD ” Many Ears To Please”; that has now been completed.
The only notes therein are by Jerry Donahue, and kick off like this:
“As the last Fairport Convention release was assembled from a few different live performances, it had been awhile [sic] since we had been in the studio. Trevor, who had produced the previous three albums, felt that we could all use some new input and that we should get in someone who does nothing else other than produce records (hit records is what I think he had in mind). We all agreed that it would be nice to try to bring in someone who was really outstanding – a master of his craft – and Trevor came up with the idea of Glyn Johns. Though none of us had ever worked with him before (DM and I would do so on several other projects afterwards), we all knew of his powerful history and talent in the studio.”
More of this chap next time.
