This time, the next of Dave Mattacks’ notes:
“”IT’LL TAKE A LONG TIME”
The first of two tracks from the Troubador. These were apparently recorded in early 1974, but I’m not sure. This could have been the end of the dreaded “World Tour” or it could have been the time the “Nine” line-up had a few non-working days stopover in LA en route to a tour of the Antipodes. On that occasion we met up with Sandy Denny who was on a solo tour of the U.S. and was coincidentally in LA at the same time. She was supporting the Association at the club and after a couple of well-received sets where almost the entire band “sat in” to back her, she received a request from the Association management: “No more guest musicians”. What COULD have happened? “It’ll Take A Long Time” is one of my favourite Sandy songs: I’d give anything to be able to write a tune as good as that, let alone the lyrics.”
Next time, the next one.
