Today, the penultimate twin notes by Dave Mattacks:
I can’t recall our attempts to perform “John “Babbacombe” Lee” going down too well, but in case I’m wrong – plus the fact that Swarb’s vocal is real good on this – it’s here for the fans who bought the LP (Sid and Doris Bonkers) [I did as well – see above]. The fact that I get to know what a B flat major over a A flat bass is (gosh!) has nothing to do with its inclusion.
[The first time I ever saw a concert by a band with this name was in November 1971, when they did indeed do “John ” Babbacombe” Lee” live; and it’s true, it did not come over very well. The second half was much better, with many “Angel Delight” [see above] things, and even a few earlier ones.]
“WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TIME GOES”
One of Sandy’s great songs. The “hissyness” of the recording doesn’t bother me when I listen to her vocals on this. There’s some nice interplay between Swarb and Jerry on this, and Peg holds the whole thing together beautifully.”
