This time we finish off Ian Burgess’s notes in the CD insert, carrying on from where we left them last time:
“The notes, which were included with the original cassette release are reproduced with this re-mastered CD, giving details of each song and why they were chosen. The recordings here span the years 1971 to 1974, and just a couple of different line ups, along with one guest, past and future member Sandy Denny joining the band for several favourites, and “That’ll Be The Day”, previously unrecorded by Fairport. All the versions here were only available on the original cassette release, and have been unavailable for many years, which made it such a sourt [sic] after item. The performances and recordings may not be as polished as others you may hear, but they are honest representations of a band at work entertaining the fans, and themselves, with some fine music. No overdubs, no re-mixing, this was the sound as it was heard on the night, in venues around the world.
“Then, as now, Fairport Convention was a hard working band, the members at their best on stage in front of an audience. “From Cropredy To Portmeirion” (TECD042) recorded in 1990 is another example of the band captured live, another line up, another time, which I’m sure you will check out in the future.

Here we part company for a while with Fairport Convention, at the end of 1975, and encounter a unique beast calling itself “Fairport”; next time.
