There are two sets of notes in the CD insert, the shorter being by Simon Nicol, and fairly specific to the record. The longer are much more general, written by one David Suff in November 2006, and it is with these that we start.
“For nearly four decades FAIRPORT CONVENTION, long acknowledged as the inventors and flame-keepers of British folk-rock, have struggled through tragedy and numerous line-up changes. Many of their contemoraries sought to unite traditional folk and the new sixties’ rock music. Few, if any, have been able to generate the long-term affection and spirit Fairport have. Despite their many vicissitudes the group’s music has continued to influence and inspire succeeding generations of artists. With each album Fairport Convention have defined and redefined their signature style.”
We continue these notes next time.
