Track 2 on Side 2 of the LP (Track 14 on the CD) is called “Lady of Pleasure”. This is a lovely waltz time song where Simon Nicol takes the lead vocal, with everyone joining in harmonised for the last verse. There is a middle 8 instrumental section with accordion to the fore, and all in all, this is a most pleasant little ditty.
Track 3 (15 on the CD) is an instrumental titled “Bankruptured”. This is a nice little mandolin/bass based thing, with a bit of slightly jazzy violin from Dave Swarbrick thrown in. It is a perfectably acceptable piece.
Track 4 (16 on the CD) is the best track on the record, “The Widow of Westmoorland”. This is a traditional saucy stuff romping folk song, which Dave Swarbrick delivers faultlessly. This one rocks on all the way through and is an absolute gem.
Just three tracks to go now before we come to the end of the studio recordings of Fairport Convention in the 1970s…
