We have seen above that in 1971 Fairport Convention continued as a four man band, producing two great LPs, before virtually ceasing to exist the following year.
The fortunes of Fleetwood Mac were not so good that year. Rival record companies released “Greatest Hits” and “The Original Fleetwood Mac”, seeking to capitalise on the lacuna. On the first of these was the curious track “Dragonfly”. This featured the distinctive voice of Christine Perfect, who was about to marry the bass player and become Christine McVie. She seemed to have joined the group, bringing the number back up to four. As far as I know, this was the only track ever released by the “1971 line-up of Fleetwood Mac”, and it is indeed a most pleasant one.
Much later I twigged that the group did not exist at all in 1971.
