Track 8 on the CD is “NIGHT WATCH”. This is a long and plodding song, but it is not altogether unpleasant, and has shades of Crosby Stills & Nash in the refrains. It is a Bob Welch number, but Christine McVie does much of the singing. There is a minimalist middle 8, where Steve Nye plays some haunting organ. This leads to a fairly dramatic cadence, which turns out to be the best bit of the song!
The CD ends with Track 9, which I guess would have closed the LP. This is a super little song with no lyrics, just harmonised “Oohs” throughout. It is a truly lovely Bob Welch composition, and it is extrememely soothing. The whole thing is very effective, and makes a fitting end to the album.
As I have mentioned previously, Danny Kirwan is sadly missed. This record is an apt example of a band that has lost its way.
Next time we start our visit to the next album, “Mystery To Me”.
