It is New Year’s Eve, and so this marks the 40th anniversary of the date I started my romantic relationship with the girl then identified as Girlfriend 27, and who is now my wife. If you really want to, you can read more gory details of all this, when they pepper the story of Fairport Convention in the 1970s.
It is a strange effect of how we all live our lives. Each day we get on through it, minute by minute, hour by hour, and usually nothing much happens. However, gradually stuff changes. In our case, we finished education, got married, had children, and the children grew up and went away [though the younger remains with us just now as a result of the days she has off over the festive period].
There is a book in the Bible called “Ecclesiastes” which gives a profound insight into the meaningless of all this without God.
A very Happy New Year to anyone who reads this soon enough.
