The rhythm section (Fleetwood Mac indeed!), having had many years of practice together, is very tight throughout the album, right from the first track, which is “Second Hand News” (2.43 minutes). This is a splendid, lively, upbeat opener, with both girls on top form, duetting on the vocals from start to finish; it is a very good song indeed.
Track 2 is “Dreams” (4.14 minutes). Christine McVie is solo on the verses of this laid back song, with Stevie Nicks joining in on the refrains. This one has a distinct Crosby Stills and Nash feel to it.
Track 3 is “Never Going Back Again” (2.02 minutes), and this is a rag-time song! Lindsey Buckingham here does a country blues thing, with Stevie Nicks joining in when the tune unexpectedly modulates into a minor key. This piece makes very clever use of a banjo and a mandolin, and the vocals are sparse and intermittent. The whole of this short ditty is thus rendered very effective.
Track 4 is “Don’t Stop” (3.11 minutes) , which is a busy and delightful little rocker, with Stevie Nicks giving it all she’s got on the vocals. It is a very pleasant pop song to listen to, in the classic tradition of such things.
