In an earlier post, when I first mentioned I had this album on CD, I also mentioned the fact that the CD had some “History of the Band” notes, for the first time since 1974. There is nothing much in the notes that cannot be found in immensely more detail in sundry posts above. Unfortunately nowhere on the CD is it revealed when it came out in that format. However, whenever it was, the notes state that by then “Rumours” had sold a global 21 million copies.
That represents a lot of money, indeed a huge, almost uncountable amount in those days, and enough to relieve the five people in the group from ever having to work again. Nevertheless, from time to time in the years following, they did more work, gigging and producing more records; and even now one or more of them surfaces as an old person still seeking to create the magic. Despite all this however, the extraordinary success of “Rumours” was never to be repeated.
