OK, Traffic; we have Stevie Winwood in the woolly hat, Jim Capaldi in sunglasses, and Chris Wood in a white shirt and thin tie. These three chaps did indeed comprise the entirety of Traffic, but only once, and that was a year later in 1970! Traffic ceased to exist in 1969, when Stevie Winwood decided to defect to join the supergroup Blind Faith, which group however did not last long. To the immense surprise and joy of anyone interested, Traffic raised itself from the ashes in 1970 with a brilliant LP called “John Barleycorn Must Die”:
The style of music on this record is unique and utterly brilliant. I hope to return to it at some point. However, for the only time in history, Winwood, Wood and Capaldi comprised the whole band which recorded it.
The story does not end here, however, as we also have in the picture Rebop! This guy was in the reformed Traffic from 1971 to 1973, and so we also have various fractions of the band’s changing line-up in that period present, with him as one of the group!
