Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
We continue today with Fred “Kermit” Dellar’s November 1995 notes in the CD insert, where he is about to finish his comments on the band’s first LP:
“Miller’s sleeve notes ran: “Wynder K. Who? What’s his gig? Does he perform public metamorphosis? Oh he’s an organist. Sure, I’ll be glad to catch his act tonight.”
The producer did seemingly encounter the Frog’s performance at London’s Marquee Club and was considerably impressed. “He did, in fact, perform metamorphosis. With a group supplemented with trumpet, tenor sax, guitar, bass and drums, Wynder transformed the organ into a highly enjoyable medium of sound, combining jazzy finesse with popular and commercial phrasing suitable for vast appeal.”
More from these sterling notes next time.
