Side 2 opens with a splendid Joni Mitchell song, “Eastern Rain”, which again features the lovely combination of the voices of Ian and Sandy. This leads into the first of 2 traditional songs on the record, “NottamunTown”, which is followed by the second of the 2 Richard Thompson “doom” songs, “Tale in Hard Time”.
Track 4 is the second traditional song, a more well known one, “She moves through the fair”. Sandy’s eerie and dramatic rendition of this makes it the best version I know.
The penultimate track is “Meet on the Ledge”. I first came across this timeless anthem on the sampler “You can all join in”. It is a truly magnificent song, and this studio version is by far the best ever done. It was also released as a single.
The LP ends with Simon Nicol’s acoustic guitar solo “End of a holiday”. Nothing else could follow “Meet on the Ledge.”
