Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
More today from Ashley Hutchings’ super notes in the CD insert of the Deluxe version.
“Sandy’s snapshot of the condemned Mary Queen of Scots in her Fotheringay fortress aches; Professor Bruce Lacey’s absurd whining robot turns a straight blues into something approaching surrealism; Richard’s dark and sombre “No Man’s Land” makes you wanna dance and clap your hands; Dylan’s rare “I’ll Keep It With Mine” is simply sublime; “The Lord Is In This Place” is strange and unnnerving; Simon’s “End Of A Holiday” is truly melancholy.
“What you also get is the blended voices of Sandy and Ian [never a truer word spoken or written here]; revealed in their splendour for a short, butterfly-like life. Finally, you get the boy genius displaying his powers with an assurance well beyond his years. “Meet On The Ledge” has no right to come from such a green pen, and those soaring solos have no right to come from such young fingers.

The notes proper end here, but there is a postscript, to which we shall turn our attention next time.
