Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
When I first acquired this sampler, I did not think it possible that I would ever get hold of most of the LPs sampled, not least in the case of this one. I believe it to be the first prog-rock album released on Island, in 1967, only ever in mono, and with the fitting serial number ILP967.
It was therefore with the greatest delight and surprise that I discovered in a record shop in 1975, while on a Youth Club houseparty on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, a copy of this LP, instantly recognisable by its immensely distinctive cover:
This turned out to be a rerelease, on the then current “palm tree” Island label:
(Note that the title of the LP appears correctly, by the way.)
It was at this point that I began to think I might just get all those records…
