Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
Track 2 is the sampled track, where it is called “What’s That Sound”, the title indeed given on the LP. However, on the CD it is more correctly described as “What’s That Sound” (For What It’s Worth)”, the section in brackets being the original title of this classic Steve Stills composition. This is a brilliant UK reworking of this celebrated USA anthem, and a most creditable performance.
Track 3 is “African Thing” (4.04 minutes), and it does what it says on the tin. It has a heavy conga beat, with some brief chanted vocals, and ends with an amazing extended drum and bass middle 8, with drums and congas to the fore. This is yet another truly brilliant piece.
Track 4 is “Room With A View” (3.38 minutes). This is a slow, brooding, burning, slightly threatening thing, and another really great song.
Track 5 is “Flying Anchors” (2.40 minutes). Here we have a dreamy, wave-breaking, deep sea feeling throughout. This is another super song, with a hypnotic, repetitive backing. This is very effective, and the song ends with a short “bell-chiming” cadence.
More next time.
