Buying the albums sampled on “You Can all Join In”.
I also have this album in two CD versions, the later of which is a luxury expanded one. This comes with extensive notes, including rather disturbing details of the picture which dominates the front cover of the LP:
The notes are undated and are credited to one” Melanie Blue”, though I have my doubts as to whether that was the real name of the author.
“The album sleeve design was a very daring and arresting image. Patrick had found, in an exhibition of Nazi Art (in Bremen, Germany), a still shot from a propaganda film, directed by Adolf Hitler’s favourite film-maker Leni Reifenstahl. It depicted a procession of leaders of war, including Napoleon, sweeping through a path lined with the dead. No colours were used – just the grey and darker grey of the original print … which contrasted with the highly coloured psychedelic images on their first LP [of which more, perhaps, later].”
