Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
Today we again continue with the notes written by Patrick Cambell-Lyons, from where we left off last time:
“Our repertoire consisted of four original songs, “Tiny Goddess”,”Rainbow Chaser”, “Pentecost Hotel” and “I Believe In Magic”. We arranged appointments to see George Martin, John Burgess, Denny Cordell and Chris Blackwell, the biggest names in Record [sic] production. We decided it was best to start at the top and work down. After hearing a live performance of a somewhat dubious nature in the back room office of Island Records at Oxford Street, Chris Blackwell signed us to a recording and publishing deal, with the seal of approval coming from Hollywood producer Jimmy Miller, who mimed complex percussion patterns on an imaginary timpani, accentuating the rhythm of our songs. Blackwell then introduced us to Muff Winwood (A&R man) and Chris Peers (the Promotion man) and a visit to Neville the accountant, where signatures and cash changed hands, completed [sic] our swift entry to the “Island Family””.”
More next time.
