Today we continue with “Melanie Blue”‘s notes in the CD insert:
“Chris Blackwell, meanwhile, wanted another single and selected “Girl In The Park”
a good fast paced and memorable track with instant appeal – but Mickie Most had meanwhile heard “Rainbow Chaser” and had flipped! He convinced Blackwell that he should go with that one – and as he was “Golden Ears” at the time, “Rainbow Chaser” was chosen for release in May 1968. It isn’t well known that Mickie Most leased a suite of rooms above Island records HQ at 145 Oxford Street and therefore was often consulted.
“Immediately commercial it fared better than its predecessors, getting good radio play and settling at No. 34 in the charts, which didn’t fairly reflect its popularity.”
More next time.
