Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
I have to admit than when I first listened to “All Of Us”, I was a bit disappointed. As I mentioned in the previous post, I only knew “Rainbow Chaser”, and I was expecting more of the same kind of stuff. You do not get this on the record. It all sounded a bit twee and dated on that first experience. However, once you get over that initial shock, it is actually, on the whole, a great LP.
Track 2 on Side 1 is the splendid “Tiny Goddess”. This is a truly lovely soft song, with a wonderful choir of backing vocals, and perfect orchestral accompaniment, especially featuring the cello.
Track 3 is in effect the title track, and also the title theme of the relevant film [see above]. This is “The Touchables (All Of Us)”. This song has strolling, ambulatory verses, and again has that same wonderful choir of orchestral vocals on the soaring refrain, which always starts with the phrase “All of us”.
Track 4 is “Melanie Blue”, the name used by the author of the liner notes in the extended CD version of the album. This is a superb “film score” type pop song. Here, the classic choir does the chorus alone, the main vocalist sticking to the verses.
More next time.
