Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
We continue today with the music on this LP.
Side 2 opens with “Girl In The Park”. This is a thoughtful, minor key song, with jaunty verses. The refrain is a “Woody Woodpecker” imitation, and the whole thing is really quite pleasant.
Track 2 is “Miami Masquerade”. Again this is a minor key song, and again it is quite pleasant. It is in the style of the incidental music for a USA Detective TV series of the time, and indeed the middle 8 is a spoken spoof of dialogue from such a broadcast. The choruses are in a higher register than the verses, which gives the piece a sort of 12 bar blues type appeal.
Track 3 is an odd song called “Frankie The Great”, the hero of which is a timeless imagination who turns up at various key points of world history. The verses are cheerful and urgent, but the chorus is distinctly jazzy, and there is a semi-jazzy middle 8, so the thing is not wholly to my taste.
Next time we shall consider the last three tracks on the LP.
