Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
Track 7 is an instrumental called “Humdrum”. This is a drum solo with soft jazzy “Doo Wah” vocals; pleasant enough, but certainly nothing special.
Track 8 is “Union Jack”, the name given of course for the national flag of the United Kingdom, and what a flag it is, combining the national flags of all the countries within it. Once again, however, this song is a deliberate play on words, being about a shop steward called Jack. It is a short and clever song, with no particular features to note.
Track 8 is “Old Man”, and is the second of the two songs about elderly chaps who have died by the end of the song. It is a short, bass-driven thing. This is the song’s final stanza:
“Old man you’ve got to wake up
Oh lord, your skin’s so cold
You smiled at me a moment ago
But now your eyes are closed
Old man, old man…”
More next time.
