Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
The LP ended with what is Track 11 on the CD. This is the title track proper, “Scrapbook”, and it is a extended reprise of Track 1 [see above], filled in to perfection. It is again worth setting out the lyrics in full for this wonderful cadence to a splendid album:
“Have you ever kept a scrapbook
So you could look back someday
Relive all the things you once did
Just as I did yesterday
At the time it seemed a good idea
I didn’t know that sadness was so near
Take a look in my scrapbook and see
My life as it used to be
Photographs of things that happened (they did happen)
And they happened (when did they happen)
Long ago
Pictures of familiar places (did you know them)
And of faces (when did you know them)
I used to know
I’m living in the past I’m so confused
I haven’t caught up with the daily news
Take a look in my scrapbook and see
My life as it used to be
There I was just sitting on a fence
And surrounded by the friends
I used to know
But that was a long time ago
Take a look in my scrapbook and see
My life as it used to be
The friends I had are all gone
Close the book I don’t want to go on”
So true, huh?
You might recall that the CD includes the band’s second and final album, which I shall start to consider next time.
