Buying the albums sampled on “You Can All Join In”.
More today from Chris Welch’s 2008 notes in the CD insert:
“”Sweet Mary”, the fifth track, is a traditional song arranged by John McCoy who was a fan of Cyril Davies & the All Stars. The song was featured on a rare EP disc recorded by the All Stars. Moody plays slide guitar on this track. The next number “I Wish You Would” was by Billy Boy Arnold and was previously recorded by the Yardbirds with Eric Clapton.
“” We didn’t copy the Yardbirds, but the riff was still there. We played it with the saxes and just steamed along. We had a bottle of Scrumpy cider in the studio and I took a few sips to help get in the mood. It was all improvised and down to what we called “Horses eyes”, a musician’s expression that means trying to catch someone’s attention, “Your Turn!”
“As well as the two sax players the band was also augmented by a pianist called Norman that Guy Stevens had brought into the studio. Moody: “We played together for two days forty years ago, and I’ve never seen him since. He played like he was rolling an orange up and down the keyboard. He and Guy were zipping around the studio like maniacs.””
