Buying the LPs sampled on Nice Enough to Eat (the last one!)
Continuing the description of the amazing back cover:
In the mid distance, following The Serene Boy is a steamer with two red funnels, but which is largely obscured by the tailfin of a white whale swimming towards the right edge of the picture, part below and part above the waterline. Disappearing off that right edge is a sort of white cliff and pink cloud structure; in the cloud part there can be seen two or three human faces, quite possibly resembling members of the band.
The waterline is an absolutely straight and horizontal white line. Above it the background is a dull deep washed blue, below it pure black. At the top right of the picture in black characters the serial number is repeated: “STEREO ILPS 9106”.
In proportions, the section above is about twice the size of that below. The very lowest third of the black section has in neat white script in the middle “KIP OF THE SERENES/DR. STRANGELY STRANGE”, and aligned left and right respectively the Side One and Side Two tracklistings. Above the Side Two listings is the hollow “island” logo with the concentric ovals dotting the “i”, and the Basing Street address. Above this are the credits, to which I shall return; at the top left of the credits is the Witchseason symbol, just below the waterline, the broomstick just touching the hull of The Serene Boy. So far, all the sub-waterline features have been in white; not so the remaining ones, with which the next post will deal.
