[Buying the albums sampled on “Picnic”.]
This one, of course, was not so sampled.
Having acquired the LP “Love, Death & the Lady” from my invaluable contact Adrian in London, and more or less fallen in love with it, I asked him if he had “Anthems in Eden” to sell. To my immense joy he had, and I bought it from him via the normal mail order method.
This record is another beautiful Harvest artefact, SHVL 754 stereo. The front cover has as its main feature a splendid photo of a “ceramic by Michael Clifton, who also made the Hobby-Ram for the Chingford Morris men.” [from the notes on the back cover.] It shows Adam and Eve, both naked and so before the Fall. Only just before, however, as Eve is handing an apple to Adam, and between them is the Tree, around which is coiled a snake. To Eve’s left is a horned ram. Curved around the top of the picture is the title “Anthems in Eden”. At the top left is the EMI Harvest logo in brown and white, and below the picture, in gold italic handwriting, “Shirley Collins & Dolly Collins”.
This is a lovely front cover, one of the very finest ever, in my view; and, of course, it perfectly evokes the album title.
