Pink Floyd and The Incredible String Band.
The Incredible String Band.
The LP ends with what most be the happiest song ever recorded. This is “Everything’s Fine Right Now”, a Mike Heron composition and one of the only three on the album to feature the complete ensemble. Mike plays guitar and sings, Robin plays mandolin and sings, and Clive plays guitar and kazoo! It really is the best celebration of this mortal life I have heard in my life, and is sheer joy to hear from beginning to end. There could not possibly be any better cadence to the LP, and it is the most fitting swansong for this all too brief line-up of the band.
So farewell to Clive Palmer for now, though it is quite possible I shall return to his later work at some future date. Here he is playing with Wizz Jones in Paris round about 1960:
I also have the CD version of this album, which is based on the UK release:
The CD itself carries the cover photo of the group:
Next ISB time we go to the group’s second LP.
