Pink Floyd and The Incredible String Band.
The Incredible String Band.
Track 4 on Side 2 is a splendidly cheerful song composed by Mike Heron called “You Know What You Could Be”. it is very pleasant to listen to, and lifts the spirits wonderfully. Mike sings lead and plays guitar, Robin lends support vocals and plays oud mandolin [yes really], drums and flute. Once again, Danny Thompson plays bass.
Track 5 is “My Name Is Death” and is credited to Williamson. However, while it is undoubtedly a unique take on the song, which Robin performs entirely solo accompanied only by his own guitar, it is in fact a very well known traditional folk song, a definitive version of which comprised a sort of title track for Shirley & Dolly Collins’ album “Love, Death & the Lady” [see far above]. Having said that, it is perfectly true to say that only Robin could do it this way, and it is certainly readily recognisable as a genuine ISB song.
Next ISB time we shall finish off this record with its last two tracks.
