I take a brief break now from the current Pink Floyd/ISB series to mention this remarkable album, or rather its packaging.
The Turtles were one of the very best pop groups of the 1960s, and released six LPs, one every year from 1965 to 1970. two of its constant members, Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman subsequently joined Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention in the early 1970s, when they were known as the Phosphoresent Leech and Eddie.
At the last UK Record Store Day I was able to purchase a box set of all the six albums. The fourth in the series, released in 1968, is the only one with a gatefold sleeve, and is titled “The Battle of the Bands”. When you open it up, you see 11 pictures of the then 5 chaps in the group dressed up as the competing bands in question:
