I am getting very forgetful in my old age. An odd thing happened yesterday when someone read a quite old message about the extended version of the Fairport Convention album “Heyday” which DOES include the special version of “You Never Wanted Me” referred to in my recent post about Sandy Denny. I had forgotten about this, and can only thank God for this astonishing “coincidence”. Should the relevant reader choose to comment on that recent Sandy Denny post explaining why he or she chose so soon after the error to read the post explaining it, I should be most gratified.
Another, curiously related, error above was when I was comparing the relative fortunes of Fairport Convention and Fleetwood Mac in the 1970s, when I said that gender changes happened in both groups more or less contemporaneously at the end of 1969: Fairport, which had always had a girl member, never had one again; while Fleetwood, which had never before had a girl member, always had one thereafter. This would be true, were it not for the fact that Sandy Denny briefly returned to Fairport Convention in the mid 1970s, something which I later wrote about at length in this blog.
I am shortly to be fitted with a hearing aid and assessed for my first titanium implant. The effects of aging are becoming every day now more apparent!
